FAQ

Out of this World Magic

Here are a few questions that are often asked by birthday party planners! If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

[su_accordion]
[su_spoiler title=”How much does it cost?” style=”fancy”] I offer a range of options for your child’s birthday party. For details and availability, fill out this contact form. I’ll send you information about each of the possible packages. [/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”Do I need to pay anything in advance?” style=”fancy”] Yes. You will pay a $100 booking fee to confirm your party. Once I verify that I am available for the date and time you desire, I will send you an invoice for the booking fee. You will be able to pay with a credit card or through PayPal. Your payment secures the date and time. The booking fee is non-refundable, but in the event that you need to cancel the party, it can be applied toward a future booking within one year. [/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”How will I pay my balance?” style=”fancy”] You will pay your balance on the day of the performance. You may pay with cash or credit card, but, unfortunately, I am unable to accept personal checks. [/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”When should I book the party?” style=”fancy”] As soon as possible! I typically am booked about 2-3 months in advance for weekend parties. While there are slots available at the last minute, it is best that you do not take any chances in securing the best time for your child’s birthday party. If your child’s birthday falls on a Friday/Saturday/Sunday, those days are the best days to book a party. When a child’s birthday falls during the week, most often parents book the party on the weekend following the birthdate.  [/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”What is the cancellation policy?” style=”fancy”] Sometimes there are events that happen that are beyond your control. In the event that you need to cancel the party, the $100 booking fee is non-refundable but can be applied toward the final balance of a show rescheduled within one year from the date of the original show. [/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”What are your space requirements? Do you need a table? And, do you need electricity?” style=”fancy”] I am very flexible and can set up the show in a variety of spaces. My backdrop is about 8 feet high and 9 feet wide, but it can be set up in smaller dimensions than those. Ideally, it would be nice to have a couple feet behind the backdrop and 4 feet in front for a performing area. Kids are welcome and encouraged to sit on the floor close by. In most homes, I set up in the living room or a game room; wherever you have the most open space will work best. INDOOR shows are the best bet because it gives us the opportunity to control the environment, prevent distractions, and avoid weather cancellations.

I bring all of my props and tables, so you don’t have to worry about any of that.

I use music in my show, and while it can be run on battery power, if a standard wall outlet is nearby, that is very helpful.[/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”When should the magic show begin?” style=”fancy”] It is best if my show begins about 30 minutes after you advertise for your guests to arrive. That way there won’t be any distractions from late comers, and no one misses any of the excitement. I typically arrive just before the party start time to set up and am ready in plenty of time. I end the show by marching the kiddos to the cake and punch and can even get them started singing “Happy Birthday” to your child. While they are munching, I will break down and pack up. It takes about 10-15 minutes for me to set up and to tear down. [/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”What do you need from adults at the party?” style=”fancy”] For liability issues, I do need at least two adults to remain in the show room the entire time. Of course, all of the adults are welcome to enjoy the show, but at least two are necessary. One thing to remember is that the adults in the room should be engaged in the show along with the kids. It can be distracting to the youngsters if adults are talking too loud in the back or even in the next room over. The Yippy Magic show is entertaining to all ages in and of itself, but the most exciting part for parents is seeing the joy on their child’s face. [/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”What’s your policy on taking pictures and video?” style=”fancy”] Do it! You want to remember this day for a long time. You’ll find some really exciting moments that you will want to capture. The only thing I ask is that you do not set up a video camera to film the entire show. Clips are definitely okay, and pictures are fantastic. Also, feel free to share them on your social media accounts. And, tag me if you want! I enjoy seeing those moments as well. [/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”Do you have liability insurance?” style=”fancy”] You betcha! This is my profession, so I treat it professionally. I carry a $1,000,000 general liability insurance policy and can present that document to you upon request. In addition, I have a background check run on myself annually that is also available. I want you to be perfectly comfortable inviting me into your home. [/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”Will you produce a live rabbit in the show?” style=”fancy”] I do not use any live animals. I always really, really, really wanted to use a bunny in my show. It’s so classic, and they’re so cute! But, there are several reasons why, in the end, I choose not to use one: allergies, safety, and the well-being of the bunny being just a few. I don’t want to bring anything into your home that could cause a health concern for any of your guests. Also, I perform a lot in the summer, and it gets HOT here in Texas. Traveling with a live animal in the car in the Texas heat can be  challenging. [/su_spoiler]

[su_spoiler title=”Can you cut a lady in half?” style=”fancy”] The cutting in half is the easy part, but mastering the putting back together is the real challenge. When I first got started in magic, my assistant was also my half sister, so we performed this illusion often. Just kidding, I don’t have a half sister. In my preschool/children shows, I don’t do any tricks that cause them to want to imitate anything dangerous.  [/su_spoiler]
